    How to find Gumbowie

We are very proud of this year's line-up. The average EBV of the sale group for birth weight is below breed average so there are many bulls that can be used over heifers, whilst the average EBV for 600 day growth is above breed average with many in the top 5%. Average carcase EBV's for the group are all above breed average with positive fat, and several in the top 5% for LF/CAAB $index.

Selecting only the best breeders over the years has seen numbers at Hazeldean SA rise to 300 registered females, ensuring increased numbers of bulls offered. Genetic progress is obvious in the first and second calvers and their progeny. Two-thirds of the 2009-drop females have a 600 day growth figure of 95 to 115, while retaining positive figures for rib and rump fat, an important indicator of future cow fertility. Bulls for sale this year reflect the genetics on offer with 13 sons of Hazeldean super sire Te Mania Berkley B1, five sons of Lawsons Dinky Di and seven sons of  WK Replay. In total, 70 per cent of the calves born in this drop are to artificially inseminated sires, allowing Hazeldean SA to offer a wider choice of gene pools and superior sires. There will also be a handful of slightly older bulls including some embryo transplanted sons of BR Midland. Maternal qualities and excellent "doing" ability of the foundation herd has always been a stand-out feature at Hazeldean SA. A focus this year has been moderating calf birthweights while producing high growth rates.

Sires recently purchased by Hazeldean, most notably Te Mania Berkley, Lawson’s Tanks B1155 and Tuwharetoa E151 reinforce  the studs commitment to superior growth and carcase from easy birthing females.
