Hazeldean Merinos Field Day 2021

HAZELDEAN MERINOS 2021 FIELD DAY

280 Merino & Poll Merino Rams
Hazeldean, Cooma NSW

Welcome to the 2021 Annual Hazeldean Monaro Merino ram sale. We have made the decision to consolidate our ram selling venues to one location rather than the current two. As such, all rams in 2021 will be sold at Hazeldean, Cooma and no longer at Rosevale, Hay. We have lifted our auction team at Cooma to 280 rams. We are very excited by this years team, they have had an excellent run and have some super performance about them! The quality of our rams is better than ever and you will see an all new catalogue to assist with selections including structural and wool scores from Allan Casey. We also are conducting a pre sale fertility assessment on all sale rams from Tom Graham of Coolac Veterinary Services.

We look forward to showing you what is on offer at our field day on Sunday the 17th October and on sale day on the 22nd October.

As part of our planning we constantly look at ways to streamline what we do without compromising the quality of our products and service. This is necessary to ensure the smooth running of our properties and our business as well as looking after our clients needs and avoid the bottle necks that occur especially during busy times of the year such as Spring.

In this vein we have made the decision to consolidate our ram selling venues to one location rather than the current two. As such, all rams in 2021 will be sold at Hazeldean, Cooma and no longer at Rosevale, Hay. We will lift our auction team at Cooma to 300 rams and have larger numbers of private sale rams on hand for selection as well.

We believe this move will not only make things easier for ourselves but also our clients. Many of you have purchased at both venues in the past, and centralising sales can only make the selection process easier and more streamlined.

We will be holding an Open Day at Hazeldean on Sunday 17th October where auction rams will be presented for a pre sale inspection and we hope you can come along. We will also hold a function in Cooma at the Alpine Hotel the night before the ram sale and again hope as many as possible can join us for a drink and dinner before the sale the following day - Friday 22nd October.

We will continue to deliver all rams to your door so please come in the comfort of your car and we will take care of delivery post sale.

The Hazeldean Breeding Policy

The special treatment of small groups through shedding and provision of artificial rations is at odds to the philosophy of the stud. To give accurate and meaningful measurement information, it is necessary to evaluate animals by running them in large contemporary groups under conditions equivalent to those experienced in the world of commercial wool growing.

Hazeldean therefore runs its stud operations along the lines of a commercial wool growing and breeding enterprise.

Hazeldean bases its selection decisions and grading for sale on a measurement system that has been in place for many years. Measurement, when applied with common sense, significantly improves the accuracy of selecting for heritable traits of economic importance such as fleece weight and fibre diameter.

Hazeldean Flock Health Status

The Hazeldean flock is assessed under the National Johne's Disease Market Assurance Program and holds a status of Monitored Negative 3 Vaccinated ( MN3-V).

The Hazeldean flock is also accredited as Brucellosis free.

Please note
Although Hazeldean employs best practice procedures in livestock husbandry and does it's best to ensure every animal catalogued for sale is free from disease, internal parasites and external parasites it does not guarantee that any sale animal is free of disease, internal parasites or external parasites.

Semen Interests

Hazeldean retains 100% semen interest and marketing rights on all rams sold including if the ram is onsold,  however this does not stop the purchaser from collecting and using semen in their own flock. The rams are sold with full physical ownership to the buyer. If Hazeldean decides to collect and market semen from any ram sold, we will arrange and pay for transport and collection costs, and organise a suitable time to collect the ram.
